Red flags that look holy.
Some red flags come wearing church clothes. They're harder to spot because they sound spiritual.
Watch for
- "God told me we're meant to be." Especially early. God doesn't usually skip your consent.
- Faith as a weapon. Using verses to win arguments, shame you, or control what you wear and who you see.
- Big talk, small fruit. Says all the right things, but is unkind to waiters, family, or exes.
- Isolation. Slowly pulling you away from friends, family, or your church.
- Rushing. Talking marriage in week two, pushing commitment before you really know each other.
- No accountability. Nobody in their life can tell them no.
"By their fruits you will know them." Matthew 7:16 (WEB)
Pay attention to how someone lives, not just how they talk.
If you feel unsafe, threatened, or controlled, that's beyond a red flag. In the US you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233, or 911 in an emergency.
